slowfield audio / beta collection

strange studies

five tools for the unexpected.

A collection of five experimental processors for spectral memory, degradation, impossible spaces, spatial attraction and inverse ambience. Each study is deliberately different, but all are built to make familiar source material behave in unfamiliar ways.

Beta software — currently macOS only. These are unfinished test builds uploaded so musicians can find bugs, stress the effects, flag confusing controls and help shape the next release.

the five studies

five different ways to bend a sound.

Each processor has a compact three-control interface and its own visual identity. The intention is that choosing a study feels like choosing a different musical behaviour, not just another skin on the same effect.

Afterimage
01 / spectral memory processor

afterimage

Captures, smears and replays spectral traces, creating evolving textures from your source. It is built for tails that feel remembered rather than repeated.

ExposureHow much input is captured into spectral memory.
DecayHow long the traces linger and fade.
DriftAdds movement and spectral shift.
Misremember
02 / memory degradation engine

misremember

Degrades, rearranges and reconstructs the source until familiar material feels partially recalled and partially invented.

AgeIntroduces wear, noise and unstable character.
FragmentsBreaks the sound into pieces and rearranges them.
MixBlends the processed result with the original.
Wrong Room
03 / spatial displacement processor

wrong room

Places sound into impossible spaces, bending scale and character until a familiar source feels like it belongs somewhere else.

SizeSets the scale of the space from intimate to infinite.
ShapeMorphs the space from real toward impossible.
MixBalances displaced space against the dry source.
Gravity
04 / spatial attraction processor

gravity

Pulls, orbits and shapes the signal, creating movement and depth with a deliberately physical sense of attraction and resonance.

MassControls the strength of the attraction.
OrbitSets movement and resonance between elements.
MixBlends the gravitational field with the original.
Negative Space
05 / inverse ambience engine

negative space

Removes, inverts and reshapes ambience, creating the sense that space itself is being carved away from the signal.

AbsenceRemoves and carves space from the signal.
ContourShapes the inverse ambience from tight to expanded.
MixBalances source and processed space.
why this beta exists

experimental tools need outside ears.

The useful edge cases are hard to find in a controlled development session. We want testers to automate the studies, use very different source material and push the controls far enough to expose instability, bad gain staging or unclear behaviour.

Equally important: if something unexpected sounds brilliant, tell us. Not every accident needs fixing.
